An old tannery of Cocentaina is the object of the project. It was built by the extinct company «Footwear Riera» in the early XX century. It aims to promote a new activity, the hotel-touristic, in front of the traditional industry, in crisis for decades.
The project deal with the rehabilitation of the factory complex to place there a high-quality hotel, for which the existing building will be completed with various spaces built under its current dimension. The project is completed with the immediate recovery to the whole river valley.
The program consists of 56 rooms, 3 multipurpose rooms, wellness area, restaurant, meeting and lecture room and an automated parking for 100 vehicles. The restaurant, rooms and private areas of the hotel are located in the original building, a solid concrete block. The reception, the multipurpose rooms, service areas and parking are located in the building of new plant, under the current access level. The small outbuilding with vaulted cellar is now the spa. Through a land excavation the required space is obtained, with natural lighting and a new access.
The new building is made of reinforced concrete, with aggregate of rodeno to give it a similar colour as the reddish soil, and steel pillars. It must be noticed, for unique, the old steel shutters the regulated the passage of air in the room to air leather. Just a few remain today. The original design is adapted as a mean to darken the rooms.
