The building proposed is situated within a brand of land not much built, between 2 different patterns: one old related to the small population along the Churra way, that was organized following the directions of the irrigation system for the agricultural fields; and another, in line with the new avenues that encircle the city of Murcia. That is a place of meeting for the inhabitants of both urban patterns and a transit point for the whole local traffic.

ASSIDO association works to give persons with Down’s syndrome the tools that they need to have independency and autonomy in their day-to-day. These instruments are usually learnt at home, where children imitate the behaviour of the rest of the family. We would like to transmit this ambient to our design, which is like a little town with its streets and squares. There the spaces are easily recognized as part of the users daily life and will show them how to face the problem that might appear.

Several passive strategies are proposed to improve the environmental performance and to reduce the energy consume. Courtyards that enable cross ventilation, support to the rooms air conditioning with a Canadian earth tubes that cool or warm the air of the building. Thermal active building system uses thermal inertia of the concrete slab to make more comfortable the spaces. Collection of rainwater and grey water for irrigation. Extensive green roofs of little maintenance, those improve the thermal insulation of the upper floor, and vertical Gardens in the sun-exposed walls. Vertical vegetation in the cloister courtyard for cooling the interior air. Thin shadow elements in open spaces of the residence.

Not only these systems of climate adaptation to improve environmental behaviour, but the adapted, user-friendly, daily design of the complex achieve its integration in the site.
